Right after markets closed today, VMware, Inc. (VMW) announced it was acquiring Pivotal Software, Inc. (PVTL) for $15 a share. The deal valued Pivotal at $2.7 billion.


Two and a half months before the announcement, Rumor Hound read and picked up a CNBC article where Pivotal was mentioned as a potential acquisition target.

Two months later, a week before the announcement, Rumor Hound picked yet another rumor from a highly reliable source, Street Insider, which identified VMware as a potential acquirer for $15 per share. Finally, two hours before the announcement, Rumor Hound identified another Street Insider rumor mentioning PVTL ticking higher as chatter circulated around Wall St.
